Most of my posts take on a tone of outrage. When I saw Martin Bashir’s attack on Sarah Palin I couldn’t figure out a way to express how outraged I was, so I just mocked him a bit and pointed out that he had created a rationale for telling many slaves to shut up and stop whining. Now Bashir has apologized by saying he is so sorry he was dragged down to Palin’s level. (Here it is. Listen to it; read it. Tell me I’m wrong.)
And, of course, it is one hundred percent fraudulent. Bashir didn’t get over-excited and say something he later regretted. This isn’t like Alec Baldwin using foul words while in a fit of rage (but since Alec offended homosexuals, the network suspended his show). Bashir was reading a script! His foul wish for Sarah Palin was carefully given a context by a story from slave life in Jamaican history. It was all planned. He needs to explain how he and his fellows conceived of this idea and worked to bring it to fruition. He needs to apologize for what he and other s really did.
It is also hard to believe that MSNBC does not vet content. So we have every reason to think that they fully approved of Bashir’s statement with malice beforehand. Even if I’m wrong about Bashir’s plan being approved by someone above him, the fact remains that he is not fired. I can forgive Bashir for what he has done when he really owns up to it and apologizes, but I can’t forgive MSNBC for not firing him. (Pleasantly, this means his abysmal ratings will continue to be inflicted on the network, so God’s judgment is evident).
In the meantime, the disgusting tribe of Bashirites is repeating his crime. One special fecal clown in the circus of idiocy is Justin Baragona. In addition to repeating Bashir’s disgusting insult he makes the following accusation:
Basically, as Jason Easley pointed out at the time, Palin was essentially telling African-Americans that they don’t really know what slavery is, and it takes someone like Palin to explain it to them.
Are Baragona and Easley completely stupid? The year is 2013. Slavery ended in 1865. If there is an African American who understands slavery better or knows more about it than a white person, a Hispanic, or even a native-born German—it is only because he read more about it in history books! What kind of race-mysticism are these people pushing? Do the spirits of dead slaves communicate to their descendents in their dreams? Do the experiences from the colonial period to 1865 get somehow embedded in the DNA so that the brain just grows knowledge of that time and situation?
There is not a reason in the world why it is outlandish to suppose that a White conservative being attacked by politically utilized history might have to inform an African Americans about the past. It is just moronic to suggest otherwise.
A less rotten example was Chris Sosa’s column:
Sarah Palin said something stupid this week. She compared Obamacare to America’s history of slavery.
No, Chris, you’re the one writing something stupid. Palin compared trillions of dollars of debt to foreigners to slavery, something that Jews and Christians have been doing for many centuries. And she didn’t mention America’s history of anything. She simply mentioned as an aside that there were Americans who would scream “racism” at her. The idea that she was singling out the South’s horrible “peculiar institution” (or Jamaica’s!) is an invention.
She compared overwhelming debt to foreign powers imposed by one’s ancestors to being born into bondage against one’s will. It is involuntary servitude. It is slavery.
The comparison is apt. Get over it and start worrying about the debt instead of your Palin-fixation.
